As a parent, there are moments when we make mistakes—choices that, even with the best intentions, end up hurting the people we love the most. For me, one of those moments happened years ago when my kids were young. They grew up watching the Jonas Brothers on Disney Channel, had Camp Rock on repeat, and jammed to their music constantly. They desperately wanted to see them live, but instead of getting them tickets, I put my focus on a charity concert that wasn’t even my own show. I thought I was doing something good, but in the process, I disappointed my kids. They were hurt, and honestly, that stuck with me for years.
Fast forward to 2023, and the Jonas Brothers announced their tour—including a stop at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. When I saw the announcement, I knew what I had to do. I couldn’t afford the best seats, but that didn’t matter. I got the tickets. This time, I wouldn’t let them miss out.
That night, standing there with my kids—Skylar (28), Roo (23), and Kira (32)—was the best feeling in the world. Watching them sing along, smile nonstop, and scream their hearts out made my heart smile. And the biggest surprise? I wasn’t even that excited about going—but I ended up loving it. I’ve been going to concerts since I was 13, and I can honestly say the Jonas Brothers put on one of the best performances I’ve ever seen. It easily ranks in my top three.
One thing my kids and I all share is a deep love for music. All genres, all styles—it’s in our blood. It’s the one gift I know I passed down to all four of them, including my oldest, Justin. The love of listening, going to concerts, playing instruments, and singing—it’s something we bond over, something that connects us in a way nothing else does.
And now, the story doesn’t end there. Today, March 23, the Jonas Brothers announced they’re coming to Comerica Park in August for their 20-year anniversary tour! And you bet your ass I’m reaching for the best seats this time. I want to share this moment in history with Kira, Skylar, and Roo—because this is about more than just a concert. It’s about making my kids’ dreams come true.
Watch out, Nick, Joe, and Kevin—we’re coming to sing along with you!
Peace, Love and Music 🎵🖤
