Echoes of Emotion: How Tantric Struck a Chord in My Soul

Updated: Apr 20, 2025

It all started when I went from being a casual listener, I always had a soft spot for rock music, but it wasn't until I stumbled upon Tantric's hits like 'Breakdown' and 'Astounded' that something clicked. There was a rawness and authenticity to their sound that spoke to me on a level I hadn't experienced before. I found myself turning the radio up a little louder every time one of their songs came on, craving that surge of energy and emotion that their music effortlessly delivered. Those moments when their music filled the airwaves became my anchor, transporting me to a place where lyrics weren't just words but echoes of emotion, and melodies weren't just notes but conduits of feeling. I found solace in the powerful vocals and soul-stirring guitar riffs, each song becoming a soundtrack to moments in my life, both big and small. I had never seen them live until June 29, 2019 when they opened for Trapt. The anticipation crackled in the air as the sun dipped a little low over Traverse City's picturesque skyline. It was the evening of the Cherry Festival, and the stage was set for an electrifying performance by Tantric, a band whose music had already woven its way into the fabric of my soul. From the moment lead vocalist Hugo Ferreira stepped onto the stage, his presence was magnetic. His gravelly voice soared above the crowd, carrying the weight of emotion with each impassioned lyric. Guitarist Sebastian LaBar's fingers danced across the strings, weaving intricate melodies that seemed to take on a life of their own. The rhythm section, anchored by the pulsating beats of the drums, Ian Corabi's drumming style is characterized by its precision, power, and groove, and the deep resonance of the bass played by Jaron Gulino provided a driving force that propelled the music forward with relentless energy. But it wasn't just the music that captivated me; it was the collective energy of the crowd, united by a shared love for Tantric's music. Strangers became friends as we sang along to every word, our voices blending together in a harmonious chorus of emotion. After I left Cherry Festival, still just a casual fan, yet impressed by their performance, I thought to myself since I put on concerts and I am a promoter why not book Tantric for a concert in Kalkaska? So I did my research and I booked them for Kalkaska at Up North Grill on March 7, 2020. When that day approached I was very nervous, I would be the one dealing with the band, I didn't know what to expect because I have heard horror stories about some bands. I was in for a surprise because they were the most humble guys ever, easy to work with and so much fun.

Ah, Kalkaska... a small town with big dreams, and on that day, dreams were fulfilled as Tantric took the stage. The anticipation in the air was electric, buzzing with excitement and anticipation. As the first chords of their songs filled the venue, something inside me stirred.

It wasn't just the music; it was the energy, the passion, the raw emotion pouring from every note. It was as if Tantric wasn't just performing, but baring their souls for all to see. In that moment, surrounded by fellow fans who shared my adoration, I realized just how much their music meant to me.

Each song was a journey, a rollercoaster of emotions that I willingly rode, surrendering myself to the music. From the anthemic choruses to the intimate ballads, Tantric's performance was a masterclass in connecting with an audience on a visceral level.

As I looked around at the sea of faces, each one lost in the music just like me, I felt a sense of belonging wash over me. Here, in this moment, we were all united by our love for Tantric's music, bound together by the echoes of emotion that filled the air. Leaving the concert that night, I knew that my journey from casual listener to diehard fan was complete. Tantric had captured my heart with their music, and I knew that their songs would continue to be a soundtrack to my life for years to come. Songs like 'The Past is The Past' and 'Wishing' resonate deep within me. Through Tantric's music, I've discovered parts of myself I never knew existed and forged connections with others who share my love for their sound. When I first booked Tantric to perform in Kalkaska, I never imagined that our relationship would evolve beyond a typical promoter-band dynamic. Little did I know that this initial collaboration would mark the beginning of a journey that would lead to lasting friendships and cherished memories.

As the years went by, I had the privilege of hosting Tantric in Kalkaska several times, each performance strengthening the bond between us. What began as a professional partnership soon transformed into something much deeper—Tantric became more than just performers; they became my friends, my music family. It is funny because everyone who knows me teases me, because I will go see Tantric play every chance I get and they tell me I am the Tantric groupie lol. But it is because I love their music, I love all of them, including past members Sebastian LeBar, Jaron Gulino and Ian Corabi. I admire Jon Loree, Chris Loree and Eric Warner they are amazing musicians and bring their own style to Tantric. They have so much charisma, so much energy that they make this line up of Tantric whole, if that makes sense. They put on one hell of a show.

I recently went and seen Tantric at The Venue in Cadillac, seeing the guys after a year was amazing, catching up and just watching them from the front is beyond satisfying but it wasn't until two weeks later May 18, 2024 when I decided to take a trip with a new friend/concert buddy to The Diesel Concert Lounge to see the same tour I had seen in Cadillac, The Parental Advisory Tour with Josey Scott, Tantric, Trapt and Adema; this day will be the day I will never forget. I did a VIP meet and greet with Josey Scott band which was super cool. I stood down by the front for Adema, but what I didn't expect was to be side stage for Tantric, to be backstage to hangout with them and to meet some amazing people.

Hanging backstage and side stage while Tantric performed was like being in the heart of a storm of energy and creativity. From this vantage point, you're not just a spectator; you're immersed in the very essence of the performance.

As the band took the stage, there's a rush of adrenaline that pulses through you, almost tangible in its intensity. The thump of the drums from Jon, the thrum of the bass from Eric, the wail of the guitar from Chris - it's like a symphony of raw emotion swirling around you, enveloping you in its embrace. The moment you hear Hugo's voice is like being enveloped in a warm embrace. There's a richness to his tone, a depth that draws you in and holds you captive from the very first note. It's a voice that carries with it a lifetime of experiences, each lyric tinged with emotion and authenticity.

As his vocals fill the air, there's a sense of familiarity, like reconnecting with an old friend after years apart. Yet, there's also an undeniable power to his voice, a raw intensity that commands your attention and refuses to let go.

There's a soulfulness to his delivery, a rawness that lays bare his emotions for all to see. You can hear the pain and the passion in every word, feel the highs and lows of his journey echoing through the music.

But it's not just about the technical prowess of his voice. It's the way he infuses each lyric with meaning, the way he pours his heart and soul into every performance. Whether he's belting out a powerful chorus or whispering a tender verse, there's an authenticity to his delivery that resonates with audiences on a deep and personal level.

In that moment, hearing Hugo's voice isn't just about listening to music – it's about experiencing a connection, a shared moment of vulnerability and strength. And as his voice washes over you, you can't help but be moved by the sheer beauty and power of his artistry.

Side stage, you're right in the thick of the action. You feel the heat of the stage lights, the rumble of the bass vibrating through your bones. You watch as the crowd reacts to every note, every lyric, swept up in the magic of the moment. And you're right there with them, feeling the music pulse through you, igniting a fire in your soul.

Backstage, you catch glimpses of the band members as they prepare to take the stage. There's a sense of camaraderie among them, a shared anticipation for the journey they're about to embark on together. You see the focus in their eyes, the determination etched on their faces, and you can't help but feel a part of something special. I got to hang with the guys in Tantric, I got to laugh and be a part of something I never dreamed of. I made new friends thanks to the guys in Tantric, I made memories, I got sung to and it was fun and beautiful all at the same time.

It's a heady mix of excitement and exhilaration, a feeling that you're part of something bigger than yourself. Backstage and side stage, you're not just watching the show - you're living it, breathing it, becoming one with the music. And long after the final notes fade away, the memory of that experience stays with you, a reminder of the power of live music to move and inspire.

But perhaps the most profound aspect of our journey together has been the way Tantric's music has woven itself into the fabric of our lives. Their songs have provided the soundtrack to our most memorable moments, serving as a source of comfort, inspiration, and joy.

As I reflect on our journey together, I am filled with gratitude for the friendships forged and the memories created. Tantric will always hold a special place in my heart, not just as performers, but as cherished friends and my music family.

Here's to many more performances, shared experiences, and unforgettable moments with Tantric in the years to come. To Hugo, Jon, Chris and Eric thank you for making the music, thank you for your friendship, thank you for being who you are and making me smile, laugh and sing at the top of my lungs. I will be seeing you four several times this year and I cannot explain the excitement. To Sebastian, Jaron and Ian you three hold a special place in my heart and I will be seeing you guys with the bands you are performing with. If you have not seen Tantric live they are a must. Also get out and support Sebastian in Saliva, Jaron in Heavens Edge and Lynch Mob, and Ian in Rehab. I have so many pictures, videos, t-shirts, posters, and everything possible of Tantric, to say I am a fan is an understatement, I will always support them. I will go to their shows as many as I can and I will blare their music always. THANK YOU TANTRIC!

Until next time,

Peace, Love and Music Always,

Mickey
